Are French Bulldogs Aggressive? Behavior and Temperament

Once your Frenchie has had some supervised experienced socializing with other dogs and people, another great way for them to socialize would be putting them into a doggy day care facility where they can just play with other dogs in a secured room. This is a bit more free form than a group training session. It’s literally just a hug room where dogs can run around and play together, supervised of course.

French Bulldog Temperament

Overall, French Bulldogs are well-tempered very funny, goofy and playful dogs. They love to rough house and romp around. Their rough housing can seem a bit aggressive to those who have never owned a Frenchie or bulldog breed. But it’s important to know that despite their size, they are bulldogs and they like to play rough. It’s just in their nature.

This doesn’t mean that they can’t be aggressive. French Bulldogs, thanks to their distant Bulldog fighting heritage are not shy of showing who’s boss and can have a bit of an edge to them. French Bulldogs are not known to start fights but they certainly have no problem holding their ground and not backing down if provoked.

Frenchies Love Attention

Frenchies also crave a lot of attention and if they don’t get enough attention or if they are left home alone for long periods of time then cab often become depressed and suffer from separation anxiety. So if you’re someone who is often gone for long periods of time then a French Bulldog may not be the best choice.

On top of that Frenchies can become quite destructive without proper attention. They love to chew things and if they are often left alone without any attention they can suffer from separation anxiety which leads to them chewing whatever they can get their mouths on.

This makes it crucial for your Frenchie engage in early socialization. The sooner you can start socializing your Frenchie with other dogs and people, the less chance you have of your Frenchie developing any aggressive behavior.

They’re a few difference between male and female Frenchies when it comes to their personality and traits. Males in particular have a tendency to be a little more assertive in their ways and are typically more rambunctious than females, even though females are pretty rambunctious themselves.

Females tend to be on the more humble than males in most cases. They also tend to be more on the affectionate side with the caveat that as puppies they can be a bit more temperamental then males, but usually grow out of it as they get older. They are also more likely to be reactionary when they are provoked. This can also be the case for males and it will vary, however it can also be treated with proper training.
